Keeping a Well-Stocked Larder
By
By
There is a particular peace in opening the larder door and seeing it full. Rows of jam catching the light, jars of pickle, sacks of flour and oats, honey from the summer.
A good larder is not built in a day. It grows, season by season, as you preserve what is abundant and put a little by for the leaner months. Start small — a batch of jam when the strawberries are cheap, a jar of chutney from windfall apples.
A full larder is not about fear of want. It is about gratitude for plenty, and the wisdom to keep some for later.
With warmth, Agnes
